5 days to go!
by Julia Collins
With five days to go until the Maths Craft Festival opens, the whole organising team are excited to be up in Auckland making last minute preparations.
We were especially excited when we arrived at our offices in Te Pūnaha Matatini to see boxes of goodies waiting for us. One box had travelled all the way from Edinburgh, Scotland, from talented textile artist Madeleine Shepherd. Nestled in the box were (from left to right in the photo) a felted Möbius bag, a 'Game of Life' knitted headband made using a knitting machine programmed by punch cards, and a hand knitted Möbius scarf. Madeleine also sent some beautiful postcards and stickers for us to hand out to lucky visitors at the festival this weekend. There are limited copies so it will be first come first served! We'll also have all of Madeleine's pieces out on display so everyone can take a look and be inspired by their beautiful workmanship and design.
Our second box came from an exciting new sponsor for the festival: Ashford Handicrafts. They have sent us a boxful of their Tekapo 8ply yarn, made from 100% New Zealand wool. This will be absolutely perfect for crocheting hyperbolic planes, as their weight means that they'll create pieces fast and their texture means that the crochet will hold its intriguing geometric shape. We can't wait to see what people will make from them!
Our final box came from Monty's Promotions and was filled with our bright bold Maths Craft Festival t-shirts. We can't wait to get these on and get the festival underway!
5 days to go - we'll see you there!
