Invitation to the NZ Craft and Design Show!

by Julia Collins

We're all in a whirl this week with a last-minute invitation to come and set up our crafting stations at the NZ Craft and Design show at the Addington Racecourse in Christchurch this weekend!

The show is being organised by a wonderfully enthusiastic lady called Jakkii Goody, who seems to be on a mission to make the world a better place through craft and art. This is her third year of running the NZ Craft and Design show and it's now bigger than ever, with the Christchurch event featuring over 70 creators, crafters, makers and designers. Shows take place all over New Zealand, with events coming up in Blenheim and North Shore in the next two months in case you miss the Christchurch one.

Jakkii has been incredibly supportive of the Maths Craft Festival, saying "I'm thanking you on behalf of the future", and saying she wishes that we had more such events to get people interested in science and craft. At the NZ Craft and Design show this weekend we'll be bringing along some of our favourite craft stations, including hyperbolic crochet, origami dodecahedra, and our fractal Menger sponge sculpture. There'll be instruction sheets to pick up and take home alongside some extra teasers for the main Maths Craft Festival.

Tickets for the show are $8 for adults, and free for under 13s (and are available on the door). The show runs 10am-4:30pm from 12-14th August, and you can also find details on Facebook. It promises to be a great weekend, so if you're in Christchurch we hope to see you there!
